Sri Shishileshwara Temple, Shishira, Dakshina Kannada

Sri Shishileshwara Temple is situated at a distance of ten kilometers from Srikshethra Dharmasthala. Shishileshwara is believed to be another name of Lord Shiva. The temple is at Shishila of Dakshina Kannada district.

The specialty of this place is the Fish or Matsya. Matsya avatar is one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu. Devotees offering rice or Aralu (prepared from baking paddy) to the fishes at the pond here will definitely fulfill their wishes. One has to offer the rice or Arale praying their wishes.

The history of this place is also interesting one. Long back once the cow was resting on a stone in the river, a tiger which came in search of prey instead of attacking on cow it spoke in a special language with tiger and wet back without causing any harm to the cow. From that time the stone is famous as ‘Devara Kallu’ and it is still present in the temple premises.

The devotees have to visit the temple first and then procedd to the pond having fishes of mystical powers. Devotees have to offer rice or the aralu (prepared by baking paddy) to the fishes praying the wishes. The fishes are believed to fulfill all the wishes of devotees. Harming the fishes in any way will cause harm.

Shishila is near to Dharmasthala and has frequent buses so staying at Dharmasthala will be better.
