Periyamalai Siva Temple, Injimedu, Arani, Thiruvannamalai

Sri Injimedu Periyamalai Siva Temple is situated in Tamilnadu. It is also one of the prominent Shiva Temples of South India. Many people visit this place for the relief from their problems. The temple is situated on the hills of Periyamalai of Thiruvannamalai District. One can reach the temple by visiting Arani, a taluk of Thiruvannamalai district which is very near to temple. From Vellore the temple is approximately seventy kilometers. From Arani, the Shiva temple is near by.

The lake of this place is believed to relief all the problems of the devotees. This is the only temple in which the special pooja is performed for Nandi, the vahana of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Maharshi Agastya had done the pratisthapana of this temple and a statue of Muni Agastya is still present in the temple premises. Temple will be open from morning 7.30 to noon 12.30 and again from noon 3.00 to 8.30 in the night.

The history of this place is, during Shiva Parvathi kalyanotsava many devotees and followers of both Shiva and Parvathi had visited Khailash and the Khailash couldn’t withstand the weight, at that time Lord Shiva asked Agastya Mahamuni to go to South part. When Maharshi did the same, the Khailash could withstand its strength and during that time he did the pratisthapana of Lord Shiva. For centuries together many kings were devotees to this temple. It is also believed that Shiladhara did Tapas in this place to get the blessings from Lord Shiva.

People visit this temple for all kind of problems related to education, property, money and even health.

This temple is near to Vellore and Arani so one can opt for staying in any of these cities. Vellore is preferable as it has good number of hotels and well connected by railways (Katpadi junction) and roadways.
